How to Install AFB Headed Bolts
Installation and removal of adjustable diameter AFB and AFBB bolts is an easy and straightforward process. To further simplify the AFB headed bolt installation procedure order an installation tool, essentially a short drift pin with a threaded inside diameter, selected from the table and follow these simple instructions.
1. Remove self-locking nut and washer from assembly taking care to maintain bushing segment placement on bolt shaft.
2. Thread XXIT-( ) installation tool on bolt until it bears down lightly against bushing segments, but not so tight as to expand segments.
3. Insert AFB headed bolt assembly through the work pieces
4. Remove installation tool. Fit washer and self locking nut onto bolt and hand tighten.
5. Torque to recommended tightness. Important: After actuation of adjustable diameter headed bolts the washer must stand off the structure to ensure radial tightness has been obtained.
To Remove AFB headed bolts
- Remove nut and washer.
- Thread installation tool on bolt.
- Press or tap lightly on installation tool until bolt is free.
